While fans have been clamoring for original cast cameos in the upcoming Power Rangers Movie, one in particular was hoping for the same.
Amy Jo Johnson, who played the Kimberly, the original Pink Ranger on Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, was hoping Lionsgate would invite her back to play Rita Repulsa in the Power Rangers Movie.
Obviously that role went to Elizabeth Banks instead.
“I really wanted to be Rita, but Elizabeth Banks got that part. I think I would have made a fantastic Rita. Or some crazy villain,” said Johnson in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
And even though Rita appears off the table, perhaps there is a role in Lionsgate’s rebooted franchise down the line for Amy Jo, who would be open to another character.
“Why not? They’re going to do seven of them. Hopefully at one point, they’ll ask me to do something,” said Johnson.
Of course Lionsgate’s Power Rangers franchise even making it to seven films is no guarantee, but rather an aspiration for where they could see the franchise going.
Will fans see any original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers cast members make an appearance in the Power Rangers Movie? Stay tuned to find out. The Power Rangers Movie hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
