It’s not often two of the most iconic pop culture factions get together, right?
In honor of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles teaming up in a special comic book crossover, publisher BOOM! Studios is commemorating the event with a special black and white release of the story’s first issue.
The limited edition issue will be designed by artist Simone Di Meo, with the entirety of the issue printed in black and white.
The special issue will release in stores on January 29, 2020.
“The enthusiasm and support for this series has been so overwhelming that we decided to commemorate it with a unique item to celebrate the launch. When you pick up this exclusive and limited black and white edition, which harkens back to the black and white indie explosion of the Eighties that birthed TMNT, you’ll get an unfiltered view of Simone di Meo’s incredible action and dynamic art! It’s a truly one-of-a-kind experience for fans and something we’ve never done before.” – Filip Sablik, President, Sales and Marketing, BOOM! Studios
For the first time, fans can check out exclusive black and white artwork from the issue below.
The black and white release is not expected to have any additional content from the full-fledged color release in stores now.
In the story, the Green Ranger teamed with the evil Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. To stop them, the remaining five Mighty Morphin Power Rangers teamed up with the Ninja Turtles to save all of New York City.
Check out the official description below for the five-part comic series that kicked off in December 2019, and is on sale in stores now.
The Power Rangers arrive in New York City to find Tommy Oliver – AKA The Mighty Morphin Green Ranger – but soon discover he’s joined forces with the villainous Shredder and the Foot Clan! As the Rangers are sent reeling by this betrayal, they’re confronted by another (fr)enemy – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Can these heroes find a way to work together to defeat the bad guys and save the world from total destruction?!
The crossover marks the first time the two iconic pop culture factions met since the Ninja Turtles appeared on the fourth episode of Power Rangers In Space, titled ‘Shell Shocked’, in 1998.
The brand new story is written by Ryan Parrott, who’s also writing Power Rangers’ Necessary Evil storyline that encompasses BOOM! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers comic book series. Artwork is designed by Simone Di Meo, who worked on Power Rangers’ Beyond The Grid comic book storyline.
