Ryu from the Street Fighter franchise is officially a Power Ranger.
As part of the hit mobile fighting game from nWay and Lionsgate, the Ryu Ranger will morph into action in Power Rangers: Legacy Wars. Ryu will use his Hadoken and Shoryuken abilities as a Power Ranger as the newest character in the Power Rangers universe.
The storyline will follow Ryu as he’s presented with his own Crimson Hawk Power Coin after being sucked into the Morphin Grid. These newfound powers allow him to morph into the Ryu Ranger, and team up with the Power Rangers to take on the deadly duo of M. Bison and Rita Repulsa. Combining his Crimson Hawk Power Coin with the power of Hado, Ryu Ranger’s Hadoken takes the shape of the hawk, lifting his opponents into the air, and his Tatsumaki uses the strength of a hawk’s wings to trap his opponents.

“Power Rangers: Legacy Wars – Street Fighter Showdown” Short Film from Bat in the Sun Productions Will Introduce Ryu Ranger to Fans
SAN DIEGO – July 19, 2018 – The iconic Street Fighter® character Ryu is crossing over to the Power Rangers realm as a new addition to the Rangers in Power Rangers: Legacy Wars mobile game from nWay and Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B). Announced at San Diego Comic-Con by nWay, Hasbro, Capcom Co., Ltd. and Lionsgate, Ryu Ranger allows players to wield the gravitational Hadoken-blasting, Shoryuken-striking powers of Ryu in Power Ranger form as a new character.
After he and his friends were sucked into the Morphin Grid, Ryu was presented with his own Crimson Hawk Power Coin, allowing him to morph into the Ryu Ranger, and team up with the Power Rangers to take on the deadly duo of M.
“With more than 36 million installations and 500 million matches played, Power Rangers: Legacy Wars has truly created its own universe and it only continues to grow in popularity,” said Taehoon Kim, CEO of nWay. “In addition to a AAA game with a large and growing player base and esports scene, we’re introducing one-of-a-kind crossovers and collaborations, as well as creating brand new characters between titles. Nobody has seen anything like the Ryu Ranger before.”
To tell the story of Ryu Ranger, nWay, Hasbro and Lionsgate partnered with Qualcomm, G Fuel, and the fan-favorite production company Bat in the Sun, famous for Super Power Beat Down, to produce the short film Power Rangers: Legacy Wars – Street Fighter Showdown. A teaser for the video that was introduced to fans at Comic-Con by the iconic Mighty Morphin Green Ranger Jason David Frank can be found here. Frank also played Power Rangers: Legacy Wars with a few lucky fans at Lionsgate’s booth. The full-length short film will be released in the fall. In addition to the video, the partnership group will also be hosting in-game Power Rangers: Legacy Wars tournaments at San Diego Comic-Con and giving real-world prizes including Razer phones powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Mobile Platform and Power Rangers G Fuel shakers
